IN THIS ISSUE: Y2K is A-OK, Even in the Philippines

Dear Friends,

Greetings and God bless you one and all through our Savior Jesus Christ. As we reflect upon the past year and look out at the new year arrayed beforeus, our hearts overflow with gratitude to God and our Lord Jesus for howthey have so graciously worked with us. In the course of writing One Godand One Lord, which we finally have in our hands, we have been abundantlyblessed by God with much truth and insight into His Word. We had threesuccessful Weekend Fellowships last year with much deliverance and excitementgenerated. Our first Prophetic Conference issued in many defining and clarifyingtruths to help us discern the genuine from the counterfeit in this importantfield. The Singles Camp was another great success for which we give thanks. And our second annual Leadership Conference was a great time of fellowshipand inquiry. 1999 was also the year that saw us launch a video ministrythrough the efforts of the Schoenheits and the benefits of public accesscable television.

We also began our new publishing program, with The Sower and The Contendercoming out in alternate months with a new look and focus. Thanks to theefforts of John Michalak, our website became a more and more importantpart of our outreach, and an easy way for people to learn about our stand. We also began hosting a dialogue board that has allowed for the free flowof opinions regarding our work, which we trust has shown people our commitmentto the concept of the open marketplace of ideas. Though it has sometimesbeen a venting place for the embittered and disillusioned, it has alsobeen a place where people can exchange ideas, practice communication skillsand receive loving feedback.

We also began publishing some of our position papers in small bookletform for easy distribution and outreach. There are many more of these inthe works.

We also saw the growth of our Partnership Plan, both in the numbersof people participating and the degree of commitment and support they extended. This has resulted in a much more stable fiscal position for us and givenus better capacity to manage our resources according to our long-term goalsrather than the immediate urgent needs.

All of these things have been made possible by our many friends andco-laborers who believe in what we are doing and are faithful and generousto support our ministry. We are very concerned to pray faithfully for thosewho sow into this work, that they would be abundantly blessed in return. We have seen vividly that the financial support of this ministry is thefocus of an intense spiritual battle, and we praise the Lord for each andevery believer who stands for the truth by contributing to the work ofCES.

We count it a great joy to be able to serve you by providing qualityChristian educational materials and a network for fellowship and spiritualgrowth. We eagerly solicit your prayers for the continued outreach of God'sWord in this new year, and we encourage you to keep seeking the specificways that you can be of service to your wonderful Father, your awesomeSavior, your precious fellow saints and the many potential believers inour communities.

We love you and thank God for your stand for Him.

THANK YOU!

As of this month, John Michalak will be leaving the CES staff at theHome Office, and we want to recognize his most significant contributionto the success of our work.

John has put together and monitored our website, and also did an excellentjob of overseeing our bookkeeping and accounting procedures, somethinghe basically had to learn from scratch. We greatly appreciate his serviceon behalf of God's people, and we wish him Godspeed.

MILLENNIAL MUSINGS

By the time you receive this newsletter in the mail, we will all knowwhether the huge fuss over "the Millennium Bug" was justified. We are fairlysure that when the dust settles, the ones who are going to look the silliestare the ones who were the most pessimistic, and in most cases of whichwe are aware, these people are Christians.

But why would Christians lead the parade of pessimistic rhetoric? Thereare many aspects to the answer, but most saw the potential crash of everycomputer from the Pentagon to the pocket calculator as a sure sign thatsinful mankind (and particularly America) would finally see the wrath ofGod descend upon it. His agents of vengeance? An army of computer chipstoo dumb to even tell what year it is, leaving those who have come to dependon them fighting for survival.

There would be a certain poetic justice to this scenario, consistentwith the way God has allowed idolaters to bring destruction upon themselvesin the past. And those of us who have experienced "computer rage," whereinan otherwise normal person develops an overwhelming urge to hurl his $2,000computer out of the nearest window, might think this fitting. But we thinkit much more likely that God would be working to help us develop this amazingnew technology so that it can be used to further the Gospel of His Son.

Think about other technologies that have been providentially developedby "un-believers" and were a great help in disseminating God's Word. BothJesus and the Apostle Paul traveled upon a Roman highway system that wasthe technological marvel of its day. Paul's letters to the churches werelikely aided to their destination by the Roman mail system, which was alsoa major improvement over anything seen before. The innovation of compilingindividual pages into a "book" was probably developed around this time,an improvement over the scroll system. When in prison, Paul asked that"the books and the parchments" be brought to him.

Biography.com  recently unveiled its list of the 100 most influentialpeople of the past 1,000 years. Johann Gutenberg, the inventor of the printingpress, was first. Because of his inspired idea, information could be quicklyand inexpensively reproduced and distributed throughout a Europe that wasstarving both spiritually and intellectually. How so? Because the twintyrants, Aristotelian scholasticism and Roman Catholicism, had virtuallyextinguished any new knowledge of either Scripture or nature.

The printing press acted as a spring wind, blowing the seeds of lifeand learning into every corner of the globe. As a result, intellectualand spiritual monopolies were broken up. It is safe to say that the "Christian"establishment of the day fought tooth and nail against the new technology.

We can imagine the flood of pessimistic propaganda that must have greetedthe advent of this invention that threatened to put the Holy Scripturesinto the hands of every common man. What a horrendous mess of confusionwould result from this, as ignorant and sinful men would be free to readthe Scripture and come to endless misinterpretations once out from underthe authority of the Church. What good could come from that? Well, as historyreveals, a liberated Europe became a hotbed of learning, as discovery builtupon discovery continuing until the present day.

Now, the computer and the internet supported by it are propelling the"Gutenbergian Revolution" to new heights, with a lot of wonderful possibilitiesfor the furtherance of the true Gospel. Instead of sitting back in criticaland religious judgment of a technology that they distrust, shouldn't Christiansembrace the possibilities that present themselves and pray against theforces of ignorance and evil that would seek to use these modern technologicaltools for their own demented ends?

Christians should be known by a disciplined optimism that is based onan accurate understanding of the will of God for the Church Age. God desiresthat every human being know His love as revealed in Jesus Christ, and havean opportunity to hear enough about it to make an informed decision foror against it. God can be expected to assist those who are engaged in thiswork, including helping their government and business leaders act in away that helps keep their countries in peace and prosperity (see 1 Tim.1:1,2 and 1 Pet. 2:13,14). Any technology that can help further this goalhas the potential for good.

Rather than being dominantly identified as pessimistic preachers ofsin, doom and gloom, Christians should be wholesome and optimistic likeGod, who "in all things...works for the good of those who love him, whohave been called according to his purpose" (Rom. 8:28). Of all people,Christians have a basis for true hope and many possibilities of human growthand development. After all, humans have been made in the image of God,and therefore have the potential to know Him and be like Him. Though weknow that man cannot create Utopia by his own efforts, neither should wedespair of anything good ever coming from him.

Historically, biblically-based Christianity has been a huge encouragementto godly government, education, true science and the compassionate useof wealth and information. We hope and pray that it will be even more soin the next millennium until the day that the Son of God appears to gatherhis Body, the Church, to glory. Until the advent of that Hope, let us livewith the hope expressed so beautifully in Proverbs 4:18:

"But the path of the righteous is as the shining light, that shinesmore and more unto the perfect day." (RSV)

How wonderful to know that our heavenly Father and our Lord Jesus areon either side of us as we each walk our individual paths. Surely the potentialwe each have to develop our individual ministries is bigger than any ofus has yet realized. Let us take advantage of every opportunity to stepout in obedience and maximize our limitless spiritual potential.

THE PHILIPPINES: "I SHALL RETURN"

By John A. Lynn

So said General Douglas MacArthur in 1942 during World War II, and hedid. So said I in 1997 during Word War V (the Grace Administration), andI did. It took me two years to do so, but on November 23-December 14 Imade my eighth trip to the Philippines in nine years. In many ways, makingthe trip was the easy part, at least compared to the challenge before menow to adequately communicate to you what happened during the twenty-onedays I was there. I would give anything if somehow all of those on ourCES mailing list could ride on my shoulder to the places I go and see forthemselves the hearts of the people I meet and hear for themselves thetestimonies of what the truth of God's Word we are teaching is doing forthem.

Right after the CES Leadership Conference in September, Mark, John andI were discussing my upcoming trip to the Philippines, and they did notlike the idea of me going by myself for three weeks. As we were discussingwho might be able to go with me, Mark blurted out, "George Lemonis!" Weall agreed that it was the word of the Lord, and when we presented theidea to George, he also agreed. George is a 24-year-old from Queens, NewYork, where he helps coordinate a home fellowship. George's parents, Mikeand Frances, were both born in Greece and, although George grew up in NewYork, he is now known in the Philippines as "George the Greek" who doesnot believe in Greek mythology. George is a strapping young man with chiseledfeatures, olive skin and jet-black hair, including a mustache and connectinggoatee. He is one of those guys who can pass for many different nationalities, and he also does a pretty good impersonation of a bodyguard. Of course,my traveling angel companions were on the job as usual, but they nevercarry my suitcase for me, which George sometimes did. I asked him to sharehis heart about the adventure, so now, her-r-r-e's George:

I guess I'll start by saying hello and God bless you. It's very hardfor me to express my love and gratitude for John Lynn and CES for givingme the invitation and opportunity to be a part of something that will havea lifelong effect on my Christian walk (Praise the Lord!).

It's funny how you can be having an "ordinary" day and receive a phonecall-and as a result later be in Hong Kong writing about the past threeweeks spent teaching, building and edifying the Church in the Philippines. But this trip has taught me that no day in a Christian's life has to, orshould be, "ordinary." We are all fellow workers with God and each of ushas the capability to change the world. Anyway, before I start preaching,I guess I should tell you about my experience in the Philippines.

Flying over the islands as we were descending, it looked like Paradise, but shortly after landing I started seeing the other side of the coin,a place stricken with poverty. This poverty was later overshadowed by therichness of the lives that I encountered. If I had 200 more pieces of paperwith me, I would write about every place and person I encountered, butI don't, so

I'll summarize, and give you some highlights:

I met some awesome believers there, some of them who have been standingon the truth since the first CES trip there in 1991, as well as some whoembraced the truth when they heard it for the first time! Many of themare leaders in their denominations. I also met quite a few people likethis one gentleman who, after attending his first CES seminar, spent fiveyears searching the Scriptures and unlearning his traditions, and who isnow standing firm in the truth, not persuaded by the words of men, butby the Word of God!

I got to see firsthand the effect that the Word of God has on peoplewhen it is "rightly divided." One precious believer told me how she hadbeen praying for years and years for God to answer many of the questionsthat she had. At the end of the seminar, she told me that every one ofher questions was answered. Praise God! I met men who told me after theseminar that they had been to seminary and have been ministers for years, but they had never heard the things that we were teaching, and how blessedthey were to learn them.

It was so awesome to be in constant fellowship with men and women olderthan I, as well as some my age, and to have an impact on them all. It wasvery hard for me to leave each city after getting to know the believersthere. I kept telling God that I wanted to keep a part of myself in eachplace.

Although that is not physically possible, I pray that I do have a placein all of their hearts.

I also had the opportunity to minister to people on many occasions.I prayed for people, I gave prophecy and ministered healing. On one occasion, one of the men who was traveling with us was not feeling well and wentto get a checkup during a meeting. He found out that his blood pressurewas high (155 over 90), so when he came back he pulled me aside and toldme about it and asked if I would lay my hands on him, and so I did. Heimmediately went back to get rechecked. He came back full of joy and toldme that his blood pressure was now 130 over 80. I know that my desire isto see a glimpse of the First Century Church today, and this trip helpedme realize that if I want to see it, I have to start acting like thosebelievers did.

I was also able to bless some people by giving them clothes, and othersby helping them with some money. I saw clearly how true it is that givingis even more of a blessing than receiving. Had I taken $100,000 with me,I would have given it all away, and I'm not exaggerating. It was amazingto see how much help even a little money was to some of those dear saints.I

wish everyone could go there to see how serious the need is to supportCES and the work that they are doing. It broke my heart when I saw thatsome of the hungry souls who attended the seminars did not even have biblesbecause they could not afford them. Others were using bibles so old andraggedy that we would've thrown them out long ago. One great man of Godwants to evangelize via outdoor crusades, but doesn't have enough moneyto buy the necessary equipment (mikes, speakers, etc.), the kind of stuffthat we take for granted. There are too many needs to list.

I also want to say how blessed I was to hear John teach over and overagain. Although he taught basically the same topics in each seminar, itwas awesome to see how he was able to communicate the message better andbetter each time. By the end of the trip, I was able to see that, eventhough this type of trip is far from a vacation (a roosters choir at 4am, pollution, poor accommodations, taking a "shower" with a bucket ofcold water, etc.), I believe, and I think I can speak for John, that thisbeats a vacation any day, because of the fruit this work produces.

It's very hard for me to express in words how this trip has affectedme. I had one specific prayer before I went to the Philippines, which wasthat this experience would give me a new motivation to do the will of Godback home. And sure enough, as I'm writing this on my way home, I am extremelyexcited to get back to work.

So once more I would like to thank CES, John Lynn (my adopted fatherfor 3 weeks), my family and friends who back me up and believe in me. Avery special thanks to my dear friend Adam, who made my trip possible, and most of all I thank God my Father and my Lord Jesus Christ for alwaysbeing faithful.

I would like to close with a prayer: Father, I thank you and praiseyou. I ask that you bless everyone involved with CES, I pray that you keepthem strong and healthy always so they may continue to do your will, whichis bigger than anyone could imagine. I pray that you bless everyone whosupports CES, and that more and more people will decide to do so. I thankyou for all the saints who heard your Word in the Philippines. Bless theirfamilies and their ministries. Keep them in your hand. And Lord Jesus,I thank you for what you have done for us, so that we can be victoriousover the enemy every day!

I taught in the San Francisco area the two days before we went to the Philippines,so George and I met there on Sunday, November 21, and entered the forcefield of the planet Travel for the first leg of our journey-a pleasant151/2 hour flight to Hong Kong. Flying is definitely better than rowing, but seriously, what life form were they expecting to occupy those airlineseats? I ask that question because there is no way they are designed forhumans. In regard to our airplane travel, there was one somewhat unnervingmoment after we had parked at the gate on one flight in the Philippines.Someone who I believe spoke English as a second language came on the loudspeakerand said, "The doors may be open." I thought to myself, "Gosh, it's a miraclewe even made it here at all with a crew that unaware of the condition oftheir aircraft."

At the outset of this travelogue, let me say THANK YOU for your prayersfor George and me. They absolutely made a difference. This was one of thesmoothest trips I have ever taken. Virtually every detail worked out, fromthe moment I pulled up to the San Francisco airport and found a free baggagecart right there on the sidewalk and then turned around and saw George,to the taxi after taxi right there when we needed them, to the best possibleseats on boats and planes, to the nearly perfect health we enjoyed everyminute of the trip, to the amazing way God energized my voice, to the timingof me being at the right place to preach at the funeral of a believer,to the weightlifting places I found in the Philippines, to the all-you-can-eatHaagen-Dazs ice cream at the Hong Kong airport lounge en route home. Ifyou contributed financially toward this trip, thank you for your help.At each seminar, I told the participants the reason they were there isbecause other people had gone went to work at their jobs and donated partof their income to CES. I told them people were making an investment inthem, and I hoped they would justify that investment.

During our stay in the Philippines we traveled by planes, boats andautomobiles to six cities on three islands, teaching four seminars of approximately26 hours each, usually during four nights and three days. In each seminar,George taught about four hours and I did the rest, with the exception ofthe seminar in Bais City where Benjie Casido also taught for about an hour.In Bais City we had 55 participants, in Ormoc 40, in Cagayan de Oro 30and in Kabacan 75, so now there are 200 more people in the Philippineswho have heard an incredible amount of biblical truth. What a privilegeit was to plant the good seed in their hearts and see it begin to takeroot. The Truth or Tradition? seminar really works, and I would love toteach it in the United States. We could do it in 8 three-hour sessionsfrom Thursday night to Sunday morning and revolutionize people's livesin that short time. If you get a group of "new people" committed to doit, I'll come teach it as soon as I can fit it in my schedule.

I can't tell you what a privilege it was to do little else than teach-fornearly 90 hours!-during the 17 days of the four seminars. My heart's desireis to perfectly articulate God's matchless Word commensurate with its inherentperfection, and I am so thankful for the huge privilege of getting to teachthe same truths to four different groups of people and seeing once againthe Word's astounding clarity, especially regarding many major biblicalsubjects about which most Christians today are quite ignorant. Time andagain as I held forth the logical, sensible and rational truth of Scripture,I commented on how sad it is that so many devoted Christians today havebeen sent out among the "field of souls" with a Gospel riddled at criticalpoints with mythology and non-sense. I am afraid it is a far more serioussituation than I realize. Someone has to tell the truth about who JesusChrist is, the Administration of the Secret, the Giver and the gift, thestate of the dead and that God is not causing or allowing evil and tragedy. And that's just for starters! By the way, I don't think you have to goto the Philippines to find people who are ignorant of these truths andwho therefore are bound with the chains of religious tradition. They mightbe right there in your own neighborhood.

One of the most wonderful things about doing the kind of seminars thatwe did is being able to see the change in people from the beginning tothe end. We were very up front with them at the beginning, telling themwe were absolutely going to contradict things that they now believe. Wealso told them that we did not want them to relinquish their current convictionsunless we convinced them from otherwise from Scripture. We also told themwe expected to do just that. It seemed like a hundred times during eachseminar that we asked them, "What is the problem with this verse as itreads in your Bible?" And then we said, " It contradicts other verses!"Very few of the first-time participants had ever approached the Bible withthe premise that if it is God's Word it cannot contradict itself, and heldto that principle as the chief means of recognizing the need to look aterrors in understanding, in transmission or in translation. We had to repeatthose truths countless times, but it was thrilling to see them sink inand see the eyes of people's understanding being enlightened.

Then to hear the testimonies at the end of the seminars was extremelymoving. One man who had ministered for more than thirty years said theteachings were "like Scud missiles hitting me." To hear Bible school andseminary graduates who had ministered to people for years and years sayhow they had never in their lives heard most of the things they heard inthe seminar was both saddening and gladdening. Saddening because of howsuccessful the Devil has been in his assault on God's Word that began inGenesis 3, and gladdening because these precious saints had received whatwe taught not as the word of men, but, as it is in truth, the Word of God,that effectually works in those who believe. Praise God!

I once again want to thank you for your prayers, especially those formy health and stamina. As George has only recently begun to teach the Word,I knew that I would be carrying most of the teaching load. In previoustrips to the Philippines where I was with someone else who was doing halfthe teaching, my voice has gotten a little hoarse, and I was a little worriedabout that happening again. By God's grace and mercy, it never did. Ineach seminar, we taught with an interpreter, and time and again I smiledwhile the interpreter was speaking, because of how fabulous the next thingGod gave me to say was. The words just kept coming "down the pipe." Whatan awesome God we serve!

After the last seminar, we met in Davao with the eight elders who havebeen doing what they can to oversee our work in the Philippines. They arePeter Alcantara, James Bat-ao, James & Nene Butoy, Benjie Casido, ReyDelima, Leonidas Duazo and Willie Matub. Peter, Leonidas and Willie wereaccompanied their wives Ely, Paciencia and Noraldyne. In our time of praying, thinking, planning and working together, I was deeply moved by their individualintegrity and their passion for God's people to know the truth.

Honestly, I would trust my life to these people. I told them I alsoadmire them because they do many of the same things I do, but under muchmore difficult conditions. The closing 90 minutes we spent together onthe last night was filled with tearful testimonies of what the truth ofGod's Word has done in their lives, their families and their ministriessince 1991. I gave up using a Kleenex and just kept wiping the tears offmy face with my hands. Truly, these people and many other Filipino saintsare "faithful men who will teach others also." Every day I pray for millionsof dollars to come to CES. Absolutely. When I see these committed and capableleaders so dedicated to the truth, it breaks my heart not to be able tohelp them get electricity, phones, computers, motorbikes, Bibles, biblicalstudy aids, and in some cases a semi-comfortable place to live. I wouldalso like to see a whole fellowship "adopt" each of these leaders and developa personal relationship with them, beside giving them enough to meet theirbasic needs and allow them to minister freely. Most of the leaders andtheir families in the Philippines could live on $300 a month. Would youhelp someone faithfully, even a little bit each month?

If you are moved to help in any way, please let us know. We can connectyou right away if you would like to be a pen pal/sponsor. They also needBibles, biblical study aids, and English dictionaries. Perhaps you wouldlike to donate one copy of our new book to one Filipino. Including thepost-age, the cost would be about $25. Also, if we could get the currently-hard-to-obtainvisas required, we would love to bring some of the Filipino leaders herefor our Leadership Conference in September. One other thing we really needto find are people who travel back and forth between here and the Philippineson a regular basis, because the postage for sending our books over thereis astronomical. If we could find some businesspeople who regularly commutebetween here and there, we could send books with them and save lots ofmoney.

In closing, let me say that as I write this report I can close my eyesand still see many brown-skinned faces looking at me with expressions thatsaid: "Huh?" "Really?" "I hate to admit it, but you've got a point." "Whyhave I never heard this before?" "That's blasphemy!" "That makes sense.""Do people in America also think you're weird?" "This guy is really animated,he's like watching a cartoon." "I get it!" "Praise God I'm free! Free atlast!"

Although George and I were less than comfortable on numerous occasions, the joy of our mission far outweighed any trifling thing like teachingwith all our clothing completely soaked with perspiration. I am spoiledrotten, and I know it. I have never suffered anything like the discomfortand persecution I read about in the Bible or hear about in other countriestoday. Daily I stand in absolute awe of the privilege I have to know thetruth, and the opportunities I have to share it with priceless people aroundthe world, people like you. I love the life I'm living, and I thank God,the Lord Jesus and you for making it possible. I love you dearly.

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 1999 BIMONTHLYTAPE

If you think anything we have eversaid or written has been remotely coherent or has helped you in any smallway,  Please listen to the CES Nov/Dec 1999 bi-monthly tape titledYou Are The Only You God Has .  Seriously, we believe this 90-minuteteaching is one of the most significant things we have yet presented. Why?  First, because it deals with the most basic issue of the humanheart:  Is God truly love and is He always doing for me that whichis in my best interests?  Second, it biblically shows that becauseGod originally gave man genuine free will, He is not in control of everythingthat happens, and neither is everything that happens the will of God. Rather, God sovereignly decided to limit His sovereignty by relating tomankind the way His Word sets forth.  The teaching shows how Greekphilosophy has infiltrated Western theology and distorted God's revelationof Himself as a personal, loving Father into little more than an "omnipotent,""omniscient" abstraction.  Closely aligned to this is the issue ofwhat kind of "foreknowledge" God has, according to Scripture.  Isit an "absolute" foreknowledge based upon His once "in the beginning" seeingevery detail of the future as present reality?  Or is it based uponHis awesome power, His perfect knowledge of the past and present, His limitlesscreativity and resourcefulness, His boundless love for each human beingand His ability to do that which He has promised?

This teaching vividly brings to light the reciprocal relationship betweenthe Creator and each "you" who chooses to walk with Him.  It magnifiesthe urgency of individual obedience, and shows why prayer is such a vitaltool in changing history from what it would have been.  Because ofJesus Christ being obedient unto death, and God keeping His Word to raisehim and highly exalt him, our victory celebration is assured.  Butthe road to that celebration,
and the rewards we enjoy there will be determined by our free willchoices today.
The tape is $4.  Please order it.

"THE BOOK IS FINALLY HERE!"

As we entered the "home stretch" about October 1 toward completing ourbook, One God & One Lord: Reconsidering the Cornerstone of the ChristianFaith, we did not anticipate all of the Enemy's last minute histrionicsto delay the process.  He tried very hard to "shaft" us on both thecost of the book and the time it would take to produce it once it leftour hands.  Suffice it to say that he shot himself in the foot, becausethe first 2000 copies of the book are now in our hands, at a most reasonablecost.  Here is what is on the back cover of the book:

WHO DO YOU SAY THAT I AM?
Jesus of Nazareth posed this question to his followers nearly two thousandyears ago, but the question hangs in the air, requesting an answer fromevery person. Indeed, the question of the identity of Jesus Christ is themost important theological issue of all human history, because he claimedto be the human Son of the one true God.  In One God & One Lord, the authors carefully re-examine the biblical evidence in light of moderntextual research and a thorough survey of scholarly opinion.  Theyargue that the biblically accurate answer to the question of his identityis provided by Peter, John, Mary, Paul and other first-century believerswho unanimously proclaimed him to be "the Christ, the Son of the livingGod."
Building an impressive and compelling case for the unity of the biblicaltestimony concerning the true humanity of Jesus, "the Last Adam," the authorsreveal the profound significance of the two aspects of his coming: sufferingand glory.  They seek a view of Christ that allows for a total appreciationof his steadfast obedience to God in the face of temptation, sufferingand even a humiliating death.  Vindicated by his resurrection, heentered into glory and now sits in a position of functional equality withGod, analogous to the relationship of Joseph and Pharaoh in the Book ofGenesis.  One God & One Lord shows how the traditional view ofJesus Christ actually demeans both his accomplishments and his heroismby attributing to him "intrinsic deity" that essentially eliminates thepossibility of either authentic temptation or failure.
Because the Gospel of John is often isolated and magnified to establishand fortify orthodox Christology, the authors explore in depth the uniquedepiction of Christ in "the Fourth Gospel."  They succeed in placingJohn's testimony harmoniously and understandably within the margins ofthe prophetic portrait of the Messiah.  This portrait had alreadybeen drawn out in detail
in the Hebrew scriptures and was then fleshed out in the Synoptic Gospels. Nowhere in this portrait is it clear that Messiah was "God incarnate,""God the Son," or a pre-existent divine visitor.
Appealing primarily to scriptural authority and logical reasoning,One God & One Lord also thoroughly examines the historical processby which traditional Christian orthodoxy came to be established. A combination of misguided Christian piety and pagan speculation are shownto be responsible for the intrusion of unbiblical concepts into basic Christianthought and doctrine.
One God & One Lord is challenging, but profoundly encourages bothChristian devotion and a deep appreciation for the integrity of the Bible. It will reward the careful attention of the critic of Christianity, thenew Christian, students of the Bible, pastors, teachers and scholars.

Honestly, this book has the potential to change the face of Christianity-ifenough people read it.  That is the challenge set before us all-howto get this unique work in the hands of millions of people.  Thankyou for doing your part, and please let us know any ideas you have andanything else you can share about what the book does for you or anyoneyou give it to.  $15 is
ridiculously reasonable for this 688 page work, which is, in many ways,"Christianity 101."  Order your copy today.

FALL FELLOWSHIP TAPES NOW AVAILABLE

Just when we don't think the CES Fellowships could get any better, theLord goes and pulls off an incredible time like he did in Washington D.C.  in November.  We realize that there is nothing like beingthere in person, but we are blessed to make the tapes of our weekends availableso that people who cannot come can listen to the teachings and at leastget the flavor of what happened.  We also know that there are somefolks out there who are building  CES library consisting of everythingwe have ever put on tape.   Of course, they will receive extrarewards for this at the Judgment Seat of Christ.

The theme of the weekend was Sharing The Treasure, based on 2 Corinthians4:7 where the treasure is "the light of the knowledge of the glory of Godin the face of Jesus Christ."  Karen Graeser opened the weekend byteaching the Preparation of the Heart, showing the importance of day-by-daygodly spiritual disciplines so that you are ready for the opportunitiesthat the Lord gives you to serve him.  Mark Graeser then did a wonderfulpresentation titled Dances With Humans, setting forth how God so personallyworks with each believer to raise us up so that we can maximize our limitlessindividual potential and connect meaningfully with others in the world.

Eddie DeBruhl, from Weaverville, North Carolina, then taught The SaleThat Is Guaranteed For Life.  In a very lighthearted manner he showedhow each Christian is commanded to make disciples, and how doing so isin many ways is parallel to "selling" something to someone.  ThenBrian Bassindale taught Whose Agenda Is It?  He challenged us to considerwhat it really means to us that Jesus is "Lord" and what it means to be"yoked" with him.  Sue Carlson followed with a most poignant and articulatepresentation titled What Is Your Image Of God?  She dynamically sharedhow Jesus Christ is the only valid image of the heart of our Father God.

Then John Schoenheit taught Be An Example.  In a rousing exhortationto reach out with the truth that we know,  John shared that the goodnews is that we are saved by grace and that our job is to plant and water, not to worry about the increase.  John Lynn then closed the weekendwith Sharing The Treasure, Together.  He shared how God has invitedus into accomplishing with Him the plan of redemption, and that we arefellowlaborers together with our heavenly Father in the purpose of theages.  John highlighted the importance of our prayer as vital to Godbeing able to accomplish what He wants to in the world.  The tapesof the weekend are, as usual, $25 plus shipping, and they will be availableuntil the Fellowship in Denver, March 31-April 2.

CALENDAR 2000

Despite the world's commercialized hoopla, the year 2000 is not thebeginning of the new millennium.  A millennium is a thousand years, and therefore the year 2000 is the last year of the current millennium. The real celebration should take place at the end of this year.

Nonetheless, we intend to celebrate all year long, enjoying the goodnessof God and the love
of the Lord Jesus Christ.  We hope you will join us at whateverevents you can, including when one of us appears "in a theater near you."

CES PROPHECY SEMINAR

Since 1993, when we at CES were first introduced to greater understandingof prophecy in the Church today, we have attended many workshops and trainingsoffered by other ministries.  Based upon our Unitarian beliefs, whichclearly affect our understanding of both the Holy Spirit (the Giver) andholy spirit (the gift) and how they work in our lives, especially in theprophetic, we can make a unique contribution in this field.  Thatis just what happened in our first Prophecy Seminar last Summer. If you couldn't get to that one, we encourage you to attend this one.

The seminar begins on Tuesday night and ends Thursday night.  Thiswill be an exciting time of first laying the doctrinal foundations andthen stretching into the practical application of hearing and respondingto the voice of God.  Issues concerning boundaries, guidelines andthe  responsible practice of prophecy will be covered.  Therewill also be exercises designed to increase your sensitivity to hear andyour boldness to speak the revealed word of the Lord.
At the least, this special conference will strengthen your abilityto hear from the Lord in your own life and build your confidence to speakinto the lives of others in a godly manner.  At best, it may be theboost you need to really step out in your prophetic ability or giftingin a  way that really impacts the Body of Christ.

TEEN CAMP

CES will put on a Teen Camp this summer, from Saturday, July 1 to Thursday,July 6.  The focus of the camp will be on how to study the Bible. There will be minimal lectures because the goal is to have the students"Learn by doing."  John Schoenheit will oversee the study sessions, which will be based on solving apparent contradictions in Scripture. There will be qualified help so that students will get personal attentionif they need it.

Of Course, "all work and no play" makes the mind dull, so there willalso be lots of activities, games, rap sessions, singing, prayer and campfiresat night.  The camp will be held at the same beautiful location asthe Singles Camp: Camp Hope, North Carolina.  The camp is semi-rustic,with cabins for women and for men.  Cabins have shower facilitiesand there is a large separate bathhouse.  There is a main lodge witha kitchen, dining room and meeting room.  The cost will be $150 perperson, which includes all accommodations and meals.  White waterrafting is an additional $30 per person.

If you are interested or want more information, contact Jenivee Schoenheitat (704) 541-4124. or e-mail her at Guinevere4@juno.com.

ATTENTION SINGLES

John and Jenivee Schoenheit will host the 5th annual CES Singles Campat Camp Hope in Western North Carolina from May 24-28, 2000.  Askanyone who has gone to a previous camp-we have a wonderful relaxing time. The Singles Camp is where people get to spend time with the Lord. We fellowship, sing, pray, share the Word and enjoy campfires, but thereis also plenty of time for just relaxing, reading, sitting by the streamor going for a walk in the woods.  We also plan to take a day white-waterrafting.  The cost per person will be about $170.  For more information, call Jenivee Schoenheit at (704) 541-4124 or e-mail her at Guinevere4@juno.com.

Join Us This Summer For The First Ever CES Family Camp!

Instead of our usual "Summer Fellowship at the Indianapolis AirportHoliday Inn," this year we decided to try something different: the firstCES Family Camp.  We have secured the Future Farmers of America Centerin Trafalgar Indiana (1 hour south of Indianapolis) from Tuesday evening,July 25 to Sunday morning, July 31.  The FFA Center has 170 woodedacres with a five acre lake for swimming, fishing and canoeing. The dailyschedule from Wednesday through Saturday will be something like this: mornings:teaching and small groups; Afternoons free for fellowship and recreation;Evenings full of more teaching, campfires, etc.  Our plan right nowis for the camp to generally revolve around family issues, with teachingsand workshops on marriage, parenting, etc., but we are staying open tothe spirit of God.  This should be an awesome time of fellowship, learning and spiritual growth.

Three kinds of sleeping accommodations are available: tent camping, dormitory housing (separate for men, women and multi-family) and 12 privaterooms in the Lodge (where we will meet and eat).  The private roomshave two bunk beds, a lounge chair, desk and wardrobe storage.  Airconditioning is available in these rooms for an additional $10/day, andlinens for $5/day.

The dorms are not air conditioned.  There are also several motelsnearby.  We are still working out the details of the costs for thecamp, and will make an announcement in the next issue of The Sower.
